Cell phone charges for messaging?
Return to DiscussionsI'm hoping someone here will be able to answer this question for me. A household member (not Streamer) sent a number of texts to someone outside the US. We have Sprint. I was shocked to discover that my monthly bill which is usually about $88/month was over $500! Do I need to add an international plan to our service or could someone use Google hangouts for messaging without additional costs? Is there a difference if you send the hangouts msg from your computer Internet provider or from your cell phone mobile provider?

I would use Hangouts or Skype...if you have WiFi I'd use them over that medium. Using them over your network is fine too but if you have a monthly cap on your data it could run you into additional charges. Yes texting over the phone will create some heavy charges. We use Verizon and we just came back from London and for us to use our phones over their it cost us 10.00 a day or 24 hour period per phone. Your also limited on data use while abroad. You are quite Welcum...my husband once told me he was texting a cam buddy in Ireland...he ran his data part of his phone to a bout 80.00 in a week...he was soon to change his way of communicating when he was alerted bi his carrier at that time(well before me)... Take care GoF.. Jenn
