Return to DiscussionsMy wife has been in a nursing home for 10 years. I was sexually faithful to my wife when we were living together. I wasn't virgin when I married. So far, all my fucking has been hetero. Now I have been living alone for 10 years, and I have been become more and more bi-curious. I now have more male TrueSwinger friends than female. Today I feel converted to bi. I now really do crave a cock up my ass. Ironically I don't support all of the gay political agenda. I still think that marriage is between a man and woman.

Don't want to get into a long winded debate with anyone, but I am curious why someone should think I and my husband should be considered unequal in some way. Especially in a free country. Thankfully most people have shed those kind of views and my husband and I have been happily legally married for over two years now and together for eight.

I have to agree with BearNIP. Besides, when it really gets down to it, I don't even care what your reasons are, believing that marriage can only be between a man and a woman is like believing that the world is flat. Sure, some people believe things that just aren't true, but that doesn't mean that we have to respect their opinions. Marriage, in several countries across the globe, is between two adults who have made a commitment to a life together; they can be a man and a woman, two men, or two women. Whether you believe it or not doesn't change the facts on the ground.
Since you brought up Protestant denominations (and since I am not a member of any of them, I don't much care about their internal policies), I will note that many people have the historically inaccurate view that government somehow usurped the role of religion in marriage. It's the other way around.
In Christian practice, marriage has only been religious since the 12th century (okay, that was a long time ago, I admit, but not on the scale of human history). In the Jewish tradition, marriage has been secular law, with no reference to God in the marriage contract. And so deep into antiquity. The Jewish wedding contract is akin to other ancient wedding contracts, spelling out the legal responsibilities of the couple.
In colonial American, ministers were forbidden from officiating at marriages in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was a civil affair.
To jump back to your earlier comment, when people say, "I don't believe" they really mean "I don't approve." Should every aspect of your life be based on society's approval? I ask this on a site for (to use the quaint term) swingers. A lot of average people wouldn't approve of this site.
Do same-sex couples really need your approval?
